New beginnings

November 1, 2016

In a few weeks, I will be boarding a plane to Taiwan to teach English. It seems surreal that the moment is almost upon me now. I feel blessed to finally have this opportunity and achieve some contentment in my life. As a bonus, I will escape the winter before it descends on Michigan in its merciless, devastating fury.

That is not to say I won't miss aspects of life here. I will miss my friends, family, the forest path that winds through my neighborhood, and the comforts of home. 2016 has been a year of emotional and spiritual growth for me and a time of self-reflection. Writing "Arsenic for the Soul" helped end a chapter in my life that was rife with torment and emptiness. Now I feel hope and an urge to live where there was none.

I expect I will find what I'm looking for during my time in Taiwan. I'm excited to learn a new way of life, soak in the culture, explore the island, and make many new friends in the process. Rest assured, I will be more proactive in my blog and chronicle my experiences in Taiwan. I'm a little nervous but I suppose that's natural given a change as dramatic as this. Nonetheless, I'm confident everything will work out.

To take an excerpt from "Red Widow," my journey overseas will bring "the promise of new beginnings, a brighter tomorrow, a painless paradise... beyond the warped horizon."
